Easterns supports Ekurhuleni Ladies

Jacqui MackenzieVic Langkilde handed over golf equipment, sponsored by Rod Williams (Past Easterns Captain), to the Ekurhuleni Women's Golf President, Jacqui Mackenzie. Jacqui thanked Easterns for their continued support and said that the clubs would be put to good use by the Union for the furtherance of Ladies as well as Junior Golf in the province.

Ekurhuleni Women's Golf Junior Open Championship

Ekurhuleni Women's Golf held their Junior Open Championship on the 08 June 2014 at Lake Club Benoni. The competition was played over 36 holes and the girls had an early start to the day teeing off with the temperature at 0?C but in the typical spirit of golf, all the girls were excited and eager to compete.
The tournament went well without any glitches and all competitors played hard and displayed great attitude and sportsmanship. The course played a little shorter than some of the girls had anticipated with the dry winter fairways. However, this of course meant that all hazards were brought into play. The greens were also very tricky as they were quick and hard, so strategy became the order of the day.
Easterns Nomads’ Junior Vice Captain, Vic Langkilde was there to hand out the prizes sponsored by Nomads Easterns a gesture which was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by the competitors.
Jacqui Mackenzie, President of the Ekurhuleni Women’s Golf conveyed her sincere appreciation for everything Nomads does for golf, in particular ladies and junior golf, in the province. She also stated that Nomads were always so willing to get involved and provide sponsorship, without which it would be a difficult task to run successful tournaments on a very limited budget.

Supporting the Juniors!

Kit handoverOn Friday 18th July, Vic Langkilde handed over golf balls, tee’s, caps, shoes and a variety of second hand clubs to Loyisa Barnes, the Development officer for golf at EGU.

These items were collected from Nomads members and the clubs all come from the Pro shop at Ebotes Links.

Vic thanked everyone involved for their generosity and appealed to anyone with any unused golfing equipment such as balls, clothes, clubs etc. to support development in the province by donating them to Loyisa Barnes at the Ekurhuleni Golf Union. Vic is also willing to assist by taking the equipment and handing it over to Loyiso. I am sure all the items collected by Loyisa will put to good use with all the juniors he coaches!

Nomads Northern Provinces Junior IPT – Orkney Golf Club 14th - 17th July 2014

The concept of this event was initiated during last year and it became a very enjoyable ‘reality’. EGU was invited to send a Boys under 17, Boys under 15 and Girls Under 19 team to the inaugural IPT played on the Orkney golf course. The teams were selected according to our EGU Order of Merit rankings and a number of new caps were included. The Girls team won their respective sections convincingly. The experience of participating in an IPT event of such high standard, for the boys and girls, will benefit them going forward.
