Captains Report July 2016
I have had a pretty busy month since our last game in Germiston
The very next week end we went to meet the Botswana Nomads in Mafikeng to compete against them in The Diamond Challenge. We were beaten solidly on day 1 but came back strongly on the Sunday. However it wa not good enough so Botswana walked off with the trophy again.
A week later 17-19th June I was in Zambia for the inaugaration of the newest club in the Nomads fold. Zambia!
What an enthusiastic bunch of young guy’s. I am sure they will be around for a long time to come.
Anul Gulab Past National Chairman of Zimbabwe addresses the new club.
I then flew to Australia to visit my daughter in Sydney, Mark Howard Browne National Vice Chairman managed to organise a game with Sydney North Nomads.
Craig Forman – Sydney North Captain, Mark Howard Browne Sydney South & myself at a very informal prize giving
I was back in time for the Modderfontein game on the Sunday Morning. This was sponsored by Sunshine Hospital and our good friend Ken Ford.
My four ball consisting of Ken Ford (Sponsor), Phil Michaux and Scott Mitchley (Club Captain Modderfontein) started off in the cold but it soon warmed up and we had a most enjoyable day. The end result was all sqaure so no money changed hands.
Ken, thanks again for sponsoring our Modderfontein game, your ongoing support for Easterns is truly appreciated.
To the Members of Modderfontein, a special thank you for allowing us the use of your course on a Sunday morning.
To our Ladies Terry and Cheryl, a big thank you to you both.
To Mark Ablett and our tee starters Brad Schoeman and Craig Dollery well done chaps.
Pieter Kruger and Tony Halgreen (Both still on sick leave) marshalled for us on the day and the field got through on time. Thank you!
On Wednesday 20th we had the Highveld trophy at Ebotse Links. 40 players from each club competing for the 33rd time for the Highveld trophy. All the individual scores were added together and divided by the number of players. The course was in immaculate condition and we had one 40 pointer on the day. Well done Cor Schutte from Northerns.
A proud Barry Bruton from Gauteng lifted the trophy from Easterns in 2nd and Louie Kaber from Northerns in 3rd.
Glenbrynth did a Whiskey tasting before prize giving alowing us to taste the 3 year old, 12 year old and the single malt. They also put a bottle of Glenbrynth on all 12 tables at supper. Thank you to Darren Moyes and Glenbrynth.
Join us on Saterday Afternoon 6th August at Kempton Park for our next Game.
